Carbon Index — Publish, Micro-IFC Sync & Statutory Sign-Off Engine

The Publish & Sync engine provides the governance, data persistence, and OpenBIM interoperability bridge for Carbon Index. It orchestrates the dual-state calculation lifecycle—allowing users to perform exploratory what-if calculations locally in browser storage (IndexedDB) before committing permanent, signed carbon aspects to the Bentley iModel Changeset and exporting standardized Micro-IFC files.

Dual-State Lifecycle Architecture

Run Calculation / Override EPDs

Modify Material Overrides & QTO

Click "Publish to iModel"

Ensure Carbon_Schema ECSchema Exists

Write Carbon_Asset_Aspect via IModelWriteRpc

Create Immutable Changeset with SHA-256 Hash

Generate Micro-IFC OpenBIM File

LocalDraftState

Calculations stored safely in browser IndexedDB.
Zero risk of polluting live shared iModel changeset.

Publish & Sync Workspace Interface

Publish & Sync Workspace

The Publish & Sync interface is organized into three distinct management panels:

  1. Publishing Readiness Checklist:
    • Total Assessable Elements count.
    • Material Mapping Resolution completeness ($%$).
    • Solid Geometry Take-off coverage ($%$).
    • Scope Exclusions verified.
  2. Statutory Sign-Off & Provenance Metadata:
    • Assessor Full Name & Organization.
    • Professional Registration Number (e.g. RICS, CIBSE, IStructE).
    • Assessment Purpose (e.g. BSR Gateway 2 Planning Submission, GLA WLCA Policy SI 2, BREEAM Mat 01 Credit).
    • Assessment Lifecycle Scope ($A1–A5$ Upfront, $A–C$ Whole Life, Module $D$).
  3. OpenBIM & Micro-IFC Schema Generation:
    • Dynamic schema compilation tools.
    • OpenBIM IFC STEP file download.
    • JSON Audit Bundle export.

Dynamic ECSchema & Element Aspect Architecture

When publishing to an iModel, Carbon Index dynamically injects the standardized Carbon_Schema XML ECSchema into the repository:

OpenBIM Micro-IFC Generation

For external supply chain stakeholders utilizing non-Bentley BIM environments (e.g. Autodesk Revit, Graphisoft Archicad, Solibri Office), Carbon Index compiles a lightweight Micro-IFC:
